What will I learn?
This course gives an introductory overview to some of the key knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to the animal care industry. You will learn about animal health, safe animal handling skills, animal welfare and basic principles of animal behaviour.
How will I learn?
A variety of teaching methods will be used throughout the course including group activities, case studies, practical learning opportunities, discussion and presentations. In addition students will be encouraged to develop their independent research skills and reflect on personal experiences.
How will I be assessed?
Four units make up the qualification all comprising 25%:
- Animal Health (externally assessed by examination)
- Animal Handling (internally assessed by coursework portfolio)
- Animal Welfare (internally assessed by coursework portfolio)
- Animal Housing and Accommodation (internally assessed by coursework portfolio)
Possible Careers/Future Pathways:
Animal care is a growing sector of work, a qualification such as this could lead into careers such as: animal grooming, veterinary nursing, boarding kennels, animal welfare, working farms, tourism.
