Nathan Lee has set no fewer than four new year nine records. An excellent run at the English Schools Athletics Championships in the 80 metre hurdles of 11.89 seconds smashed Robert Charlton’s previous record of 12.23, set in 2000. Another long standing record to fall this summer, albeit by a small margin, was the long jump record of 5.43m which was set way back in 1993 by Matthew Armstrong. Nathan’s jump of 5.47m was just enough to take the record. Jonathan Archer’s record of 1.62m in the high jump stood for just one year, with Nathan recording a jump of 1.70m at the Northumberland Schools’ Championships. Nathan’s final record came in the Pentathlon. In the North East Schools’ Combined Events at Hull, he recorded a new best score of 2351 points to finish eighth.

Another athlete to record four new records is year 11 student Charlotte Sadler.  First to go was Sally Brown’s year 11 record of 48.31 in the 300m set in 1998, replaced by Charlotte’s new record of 47.90 set at the Northumberland Schools’ Championships. It wasn’t a good day for Sally Brown as at the same meeting she lost her triple jump record with Charlotte’s new record of 9.46m surpassing her best of 8.60m. At the same championships Shelley Murray-Hill’s 1997 300m hurdles record of 56.90 was also replaced by a new mark of 48.90. Finally Charlotte recorded a new record in the Heptathlon of 2832 points.
